This lecture focuses on the "publicness" and "professionalism" of art museums, exploring their roles and values in the city. Cheng Dapeng believes that publicness is the core concept of art museums. As repositories of public culture, art museums ought to bolster public engagement by fostering more open spaces and diverse activities, becoming catalysts for urban culture and art. Through a curated selection of art museum architectural cases both at home and abroad, Cheng elucidates how art museums are being seamlessly integrated into the urban fabric via innovative architectural designs and refurbishments.
In terms of professionalism, Cheng Dapeng combined the project experience of CAFA Art Museum to deeply explore the design details of exhibition space planning, equipment and technical support, budget and project management, etc., to specifically introduce the current construction logic and execution standards of art museums. Finally, Cheng Dapeng mentioned that the construction of art museums is not a static process, and art museums need to constantly make renovations and adjustments according to the pace of urban development.
