"My city is made of candy and cookies and looks delicious and tempting. When we taste the city, we indulge our desire to taste it, yet in doing so; we are destroying the city and leaving it in ruins." — Song Dong
"Song Dong: Eating the City" is the first space project launched by the Suzhou Museum of Contemporary Art for the public participation. The artist Song Dong, in collaboration with 22 volunteers, constructed a virtual contemporary city using 303,832 cookies and chocolates, and extended an invitation to citizens to participate in "eating" it together, breaking the boundaries between art and daily life in a unique interactive way.
This utopian city of over 100 square meters was architecturally realized in 5 days. It was then swept away by the 2,000 citizens engaged in "Eating the City" in just over two hours. As the final cookie faded into memory, this art from life continues once again in the simplest way possible in human life.
